Peter Barton

Peter Barton

In the mid eighties I learned to read and write Japanese while attending university in Tokyo, Japan. This was my serendipitous door opener into the forest industry in 1988 as it was unusual at the time to have a Canadian who could speak directly to end users in the Japanese market. I am on my nineteenth year in the business, and I have gone from quality control at a primary mill, running a shift at a remanufacturing plant, selling lumber to Japan, to now selling mostly to the U.S.

I’ve been with Marathon Forest and it’s predecessor for 10 years. My specialty is working with remanufacturing plants both as customers and suppliers. My biggest products are pallet stock and short studs/blocks.

The thing I enjoy most about the lumber industry is that every day is different. Looking forward to what the next 20 years will bring !

Leah Smith

Leah Swift

My career in the lumber industry began in 2000 in the heart of the lumber producing regions of Northern BC.  I had the opportunity to work in both the US and Canada for Leggettwood, a lumber remanufactuer that produced studs, furring strips, fencing, pallet stock and crating components.  I oversaw the US custom processing program for their finger joined studs product line, gaining experience in all aspects of production, quality and sales.  I also worked at their facility in Langley BC, active in purchasing, operations, safety and sales.

The newest member of Marathon Forest Products, I am honored to be learning from and working with some of the best.  Low grade SPF, Aspen pallet stock and green timbers are a few of the items I’d be happy to help you with.

My ten years of experience as executive assistant in wholesale lumber has been marked with continuous growth.  Watching a company in the commodity business grow and change with market fluctuations has provided me with a great learning structure.  I am involved in all day-to-day activities encompassing the full sales cycle, managing daily transactions and inventory management.  In addition, I work closely with management and our senior traders, and oversee the vendor managed inventory program.  I am proud to be a part of Marathon Forest Products Ltd. and am excited about our future growth.  I have been a resident of the North Shore for over 20 years and when not with family and friends, am an active volunteer in this wonderful community.

Doreen is also involved in two credit groups:  BC Wholesale Lumber and Equifax, which extends her contacts within the credit fraternity, and also works closely with representatives within Export Development Canada to procure the right credit needs for perspective and ongoing customers.
